PBS, as one of the newest biopolymers, has similar mechanical properties to high-density polyethylene andPoly(1,4-butylene succinate) (PBS) is a biodegradable, semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester synthesized through polycondensation of succinic acid and 1-4-butanediol.

Its applications include food packaging, textile industry, agricultural industry (composting improvement, mulch film, plant pots), automotive industry, disposable tableware, sanitary products, fishing nets, garbage bags for organic waste and for many consumer goods with short shelf life.
